Designability receives £2,500 from The Pavers Foundation

We’re delighted to have donated £2,500 to Designability, a charity working directly with children and adults living with a disability or long-term illness to create products and assistive technology, enabling greater independence and happiness in everyday life.

The donation came after employees from Pavers, Jones Bootmaker and Herring Shoes voted to decide on one of two Charities of the Year. Employees across our three brands came together and had the tough task of choosing between four incredible charities, Dementia UK, Designability, Make a Wish Ireland, and NSPCC.

With Dementia UK taking nearly half of the votes, we recently announced the cause as the winner, and as such, they received a £65,000 from the Pavers Foundation. However, we wanted to show our support to all of the runner-up charities and each cause including Designability, received a donation of £2,500.

One of the charity's most recognisable products, the Wizzybug.

Designability is a national charity transforming the lives of disabled people and those living with a long-term health condition. One of the charity’s most recognisable products is the Wizzybug, a powered wheelchair that provides children under the age of 5 with independence. Designability run a free loan so all children that could benefit are able to access one.

“Designability is hugely grateful for the £2,500 donation from the Pavers Foundation. We do not receive any statutory funding so voluntary donations, like this, are vital in helping us to design and create products and technology for people living with a disability.

This donation could help fund a Wizzybug, a powered wheelchair for under 5s. These are not generally funded on the NHS but thanks to donations like this one we are able to offer them to families on a free loan scheme, giving children who are unable to walk the freedom and independence to explore and play!

Alternatively it could help fund a workshop for people living with a disability and their carers so we can understand what tasks are difficult for them on a day to day basis, and work with them to create something to help.

Everyone at Designability joins me in saying a heartfelt thank you for your support.”
