Wigginton Community Pavilion Receives a Local Donation

The Pavers Foundation has awarded a donation of £3,500 to the Wigginton Community Pavilion project in York, following a grant application from Catherine Fielder, who works in HR at Pavers Head Office. The Pavilion will be named after president and founder of the Grasshoppers football club, John Jeffery, in recognition of his hard work in the local community.

The Community Pavilion will provide a much-needed new community space for the North of York. The project is now very close to completion (approximately 95%) and this donation will be used to finish the community room and kitchen inside the Pavilion and take the project to the finish line.

The Pavilion will centre around a 65m2 social space which will accommodate activities including Zumba, yoga, Pilates, art classes, children’s parties, bingo and much more. The Pavilion’s facilities will be accessible to all age ranges from toddlers to pensioners and reduce social isolation within the community.

With the Pavilion sitting on the grounds of the Wigginton Playing Fields, and being used by local football club, Wigginton Grasshoppers, a big focus of the facility is getting people active. Accessible changing facilities within the pavilion will allow the Grasshoppers to launch a much needed disabilities team in York. The facility will also increase sporting opportunities for females within the local and wider community and be used for courses run by external organisations.

The village has an ageing population and getting people active is a key part of this facility. Being active supports health and wellbeing and gives those in the community a sense of unity and somewhere they can go to escape their daily struggles. Having accessible facilities in the village will allow a much more inclusive environment and lift any barriers, supporting those with disabilities to be involved.

The Pavilion team have now hit their fundraising target, thanks to the donation form the Foundation:

"Everyone associated with the Wigginton Community Pavilion Project is hugely grateful to The Pavers Foundation for their generous donation. The Project Team and the players and parents at Wigginton Grasshoppers have worked amazingly hard for the past 6 years to get us to where we are now and we hope that the facility will be open for groups to use in Spring. The donation from the Pavers Foundation will help us with the fixtures and fittings for the community room and the kitchen. It's brilliant that a local family business like Pavers supports community projects like ours - their donation will make a real difference to families and community groups in the north of York."
