The Pavers Foundation, a charitable initiative of UK leading York-based footwear retailer Pavers has recently awarded £1,500 to PROPS North East. The charity’s main role is to improve the lives of families affected by drug and alcohol misuse. The donation was made on behalf of Angela Phillips, Customer Care Assistant at Pavers Shiremoor, who applied through the Foundation’s grant application scheme.
The Foundation has donated to over 265 worthwhile causes so far. The vast majority of the donations go to charities voted for by colleagues working in the business through votes for annual charities and individual grant applications.
Angela Phillips said: “It is a difficult time for us all during this pandemic so when the foundation asked for charity recommendations, I didn’t hesitate to put PROPS forward as I realised this small local charity would be in much demand and benefit from any contribution offered. I am delighted that Pavers saw their need and I was able to present a cheque which will make a huge difference to so many, which I have done with such pride for the Pavers Foundation”.
The grant donation will go towards supporting the families affected in Angela’s local community, who have struggled more than ever over the last 18 months and will continue to need support in the aftermath of the pandemic.
Nicola Mansfield Jones from the charity explained the impact of the donation: “PROPS Northeast is very grateful for the Pavers Foundation grant has awarded to us. This funding will support carers and family members impacted by substance misuse to access much needed respite opportunities. After the previous 15 months with families managing the difficult restrictions due to the pandemic, this funding will be a lifeline for them.”
The Foundation strives to ‘make a difference with every pair’, receiving 2% net profit from the main business each year alongside proceeds from the sale of carrier bags. The Foundation has recently reached their £1 million milestone of charitable giving.
