Pavers Foundation helps out Isle of Wight- based charity with £5,000 grant

The Pavers Foundation has donated £5,000 to the Wight Brainy Bunch to match their mammoth fundraising efforts.

The grant was applied for by Emma Lavers, Assistant Manager at Pavers Newport, on the Isle of Wight. Emma applied for the funding through the Pavers Foundation’s employee-led grant application scheme, in order to help out the charity which supports brain-tumour sufferers and their families.

“The Wight Brainy Bunch does such an amazing job supporting families affected by brain tumours. I have been following Mark’s story since meeting him a few years ago through local fundraising events. The Island has a strong community spirit, and this donation will help so many local families both financially and emotionally.”

The Wight Brainy Bunch was founded in 2015 by firefighter Mark Grimes and his wife Kathryn, following Mark’s diagnosis with a brain tumour.

“Living on the IOW we found the whole situation really isolating and lonely and we decided we wanted to help other families in the same situation. We originally set out to raise £1000 for the national 'Brain Tumour Charity', but it became apparent quite quickly that there were many local families who needed help.. and so The Wight Brainy Bunch was born.”

Most of the charity’s fundraising takes place through small events such as comedy nights and a special ‘mince-pie-marathon’ which helped to secure the fundraising target for the Foundation’s match donation!

The Foundation are delighted to be able to support the Wight Brainy Bunch, with the donation being used to fund things such as essential operational transport, cognitive rehabilitation therapy and purchasing of specialist equipment.
