Children with Cancer Benefits from Employee Vote

Children with Cancer has been awarded £2,500 by The Pavers Foundation, the employee led charitable trust created by family owned and run shoe retailer, Pavers. The donation came following an employee vote to decide on their Charity of the Year 2021.

Employees from Pavers, Jones Bootmaker and Herring Shoes voted between Shout, Children with Cancer, The Brain Tumour Charity and Shelter. With Shout taking nearly half the votes, they received a donation of £50,000 from The Pavers Foundation. However, the business wanted to show support for the fantastic work of the three runner-up charities and donated a further £2,500 to each of the causes.

Debbie Paver, Pavers Foundation Trustee said:

I originally nominated this charity as I feel it is important that we support all charities that invest in our children as they are the future, I have four children myself and I would be absolutely devastated if anything were to ever happen to them. I nominated this fantastic charity to highlight the brilliant work they do in trying to combat such terrible illnesses that destroy entire families, and hope that this donation will help them carry on the amazing work they do every day”

In 2020 Children with Cancer lost 40% of their funding because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, children with certain types of cancer or who are undergoing cancer treatment are more likely to become infected by COVID-19 as a result of their weakened immune systems. This donation from the Pavers Foundation will help Children with Cancer to continue to support children and their loved ones during these uncertain times.

Alex Redwood, Corporate Partnerships Manager, Children with Cancer said:

“We are very grateful to be the runner up Charity of the Year for the Pavers Foundation and to receive a £2,500 donation. Every day in the UK, 12 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer, sadly, of those 12, two will not survive the disease. These young people, and their families, need our support now more than ever and partnerships such as these help us continue to fund vital, life-saving research and find kinder, safer treatments as well as support families when they need it most.”
