The Pavers Foundation Gives a Helping Hand to St. Francis Hospice

The Pavers Foundation has donated €3,566 to St. Francis Hospice in Dublin, following a grant nomination from Lauren Maughan, Assistant Manager at Pavers, on behalf of the whole team at Blanchardstown Centre.

St. Francis Hospice provides specialist palliative care service to people in North Dublin. This includes respite support for families, friends, and all healthcare professionals providing palliative care support.

It costs €15.25 million per year for St. Francis Hospice to provide their high-quality services, which are free to the patients and families in their care. Although this is partly funded by the Health Service Executive, the Hospice absolutely depends on donations from the wider community.

Lauren and her team submitted this application on behalf of their colleague, Nathan Kane, whose Dad, Gerry, passed away in December 2018. This was an extremely tough time for Nathan, his mum, 2 young sisters and his extended family. The team at Blanchardstown Centre wanted to pay tribute to Gerry on behalf of Nathan and thank St. Francis Hospice whilst they continue to care for future patients and loved ones.

“St. Francis Hospice were incredible in their care of Gerry during his final weeks, where they also made the family feel secure, welcomed and at ease during this time.”

Lauren Maughan, Assistant Manager at Pavers at Blanchardstown Centre

The Pavers Foundation donation has contributed towards the improvement of the Hospice’s Inpatient Unit. Each of the unit’s 24 patient rooms has an armchair or riser/recliner chair so that the patient can sit out of bed and remain as comfortable as possible. Following new infection control regulations, all worn and tired chairs need to be recovered and rejuvenated.

Due to the wonderful and generous donation from the Pavers Foundation we have been able to recover all of our chairs in a lovely bright new material that is washable and therefore meets the infection control regulations. The recovered chairs add to the aesthetic of the beautiful inpatient unit, they are in constant use by our patients and now will last for many years to come.

On behalf of our patients, their families and loved ones and our entire team, we extend to you a big thank you!”
