The Pavers Foundation has awarded Rowcroft Hospice a grant of £3,000 following an application by Pavers Torquay branch manager, Jodie Taylor.
Jodie applied for the grant through the Foundation’s employee-based grant application initiative, after seeing first-hand, the support the Hospice provides to sufferers of life-limiting illnesses and their families, living throughout South Devon. Having previously fundraised for the charity though a sponsored walk with family and friends, Jodie was keen to further support the charity by applying to the Foundation.
Although the NHS supports the Hospice with funding, in 2016 the Hospice faced possible closure following a funding shortfall of over £1 million. Luckily the hospice was able to come through this difficult period and is now in a much more stable position. The hospice maintains a tight control on costs and seeks additional funding through Trusts, Grants and Corporate donations when further services or equipment is needed.
The grant will go towards supporting the Devon-based charity’s new programme of ‘supporting men through grief’, said Trusts and Grants manager, Stewart Molyneux,
“We have developed a number of events where we will invite bereaved men to Rowcroft Hospice to share their stories, should they wish to, around a fire pit in a safe environment with people who are on similar grief paths.”Stewart Molyneux, Trusts and Grants Manager, Rowcroft Hospice
Lisa Whittaker, Corporate Fundraiser for Rowcroft Hospice, provides further details about how the donation will be used:
“We support around 180 grieving relatives each year, but we find that the people using our bereavement, listening and support services are more often than not female. We want to offer more men the opportunity to feel comfortable in sharing their thoughts and feelings as they go through some really challenging times and this very generous award will help us to achieve that.”Lisa Whittaker, Corporate Fundraiser, Rowcroft Hospice
Thanks to the Pavers Foundation, Rowcroft Hospice is able to reach out to even more people to provide comfort, strength and support when facing such difficult times.
