St Mary’s Football Club are kitted out for the season!

St Mary’s Football Club 05’s has benefitted from £500 from the Pavers Foundation as a result of a grant application from Jason Molloy, Store Manager at Pavers Antrim, allowing them to purchase new training kits for the team.

Jason, whose son is a member of the 05’s, applied for the funding through the Pavers Foundation’s grant application initiative in November 2019.

“Having grown up in the North of Ireland we had a community that was divided, and in conflict with each other over their beliefs. To me, the children in this football team represent the future of this country: they do not see a divide in their community, they do not see one side or the other, they simply see togetherness”.

St Mary’s Football Club, founded in 1996, aims to achieve greater youth participation in sport by promoting the development of sporting events and activities, and promote good sportsmanship throughout its members.

Brian Byrne, Treasurer of St Mary’s FC, has been involved with all aspects of the club, as a parent and coach for over 20 years.

“The club is run on a voluntary basis and depends so much on the many hours of personal time given by our coaches. St Mary’s FC does not have any facilities of our own and has to utilise local council and school pitches and halls, so in addition to the dedication of our volunteers we could not exist without the tremendous financial support provided by our parents, and organisations such as the Foundation.”

The club has used the £500 grant to purchase new training kits for their 05’s team. The new kits will help to enhance the sporting experience of all players in this age group and throughout the club, which involves over 500 boys, girls and adults in the Newtonabbey area.
