Members of Kerry Cancer Support Group, Health Link Transport were presented with a cheque for £2,000 by Norma Burke, Assistant Manager at Pavers in Killarney, who applied through our employee grant initiative.

The donation will be used to enhance the charity’s signature service, the Kerry Cork Health link bus. The link bus transports service users from their homes to hospitals in Cork and Limerick, so they can make it to their cancer treatment. On average, the bus takes 19 patients every day for treatment at hospitals, free of charge. Amazingly, since 2010, the charity has transported service users to nearly 21,000 appointments.

As well as the link bus, the Kerry Cancer Support Group also provides information and support to families facing cancer, and runs awareness sessions in schools and at local groups.

Kerry Cancer Support Group was established in 2007 and has been transporting the people of Kerry and West Cork to hospitals in Cork for their cancer treatment since 2010. In the past year they have started a similar service to Limerick, looking after North Kerry and West Limerick.

“I chose to support the Kerry Cancer Support Group as while I was on maternity leave my baby and often met the bus on our early morning walks. I would see people going from their own cars, leaving their loved ones to get on the bus. The people always had a smile on their face when getting on the bus, which I thought was amazing because of what they knew was ahead of them that day.

The Kerry Cork link bus offers such a valuable service for people, but also for their families, as it gives them ease and peace of mind to know that they are safe and able to speak to people to similar situations. The very generous donation will help to keep the buses going.”

Norma Burke, Assistant Manager at Pavers in Killarney

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Norma for the nomination and to the Pavers Foundation for this very generous donation. We were absolutely delighted to hear that we’d been successful. The donation will be put to very good use!”
