Helping to beat heartbreak with the British Heart Foundation

The Pavers Foundation has donated £25,000 to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) on behalf of Graham Paver, Trustee of the Pavers Shoes' charity initiative. This donation will help to fund life-saving research into heart and circulatory diseases.

The BHF fund over £100 million into research every year with a pledge to find future prevention, treatments and cures for all heart and circulatory diseases, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, vascular dementia and risk factors such as diabetes. They provide health and emotional support to anyone who has been affected by a heart condition.

The donation will support research across the country, including projects taking place in York. The BHF currently funds six projects in the city, and their work ranges from research into limiting infection risk to patients who have implanted medical devices such as pacemakers and prosthetic heart valves, to research into the genetic causes of a kind of blood cancer which causes blood clots.

BHF is a particularly special charity to Graham and his family, who sadly lost a close family member to heart disease. With this donation, they are pleased to be able to give back to the cause and to help others going through similar experiences with loved ones. Graham said:

“The British Heart Foundation offer hope for the future, that one day we can find cures for heart diseases that affect so many. As well as pioneering research, they raise awareness and offer vital information and support at a time when people need it the most. I am thrilled to be able to help this fantastic organisation”.

Paul Davies, Partnership Programme Lead, BHF said:

“This is a very generous donation and one that will be extremely valuable in supporting our life saving research. One in four people in the UK, and one in three globally will die from heart or circulatory disease, so funding like this is vital to support our vision to beat the world’s biggest killer. We are very grateful to Graham and the Pavers Foundation for helping us beat heartbreak from heart and circulatory disease.”

Advances from our research have saved and improved millions of lives, but heart diseases, stroke, vascular dementia and their risk factors such as diabetes still cause heartbreak in every family.
